The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence regarding the Naval Airship Association, of which Kane was treasurer; letters to Captain Marion Eppes; and Navy course and training materials. Included are books and booklets on naval airships; directories of Naval Airship Association members; newsletters of the Navy League, St. Louis, Naval Airship Association and Lighter than Air Society; newspaper clippings, photographs of Kane; videotapes of blimps, dirigibles and Naval Airship Association reunions; and slides of blimps and airplanes.

John C. Kane was born in 1922 in Ironwood, MI. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with the class of 1944. He was a blimp pilot in WWII. He earned a master's degree in aeronautical engineering from Cal Tech after the war. He qualified as a Navy pilot and worked as a staff officer in various posts. Kane retired from the Navy in 1968 and was an executive with McDonnell Douglas and General Dynamics. He passed away in St. Louis, MO in October 2005. From the description of Papers, 19...

Captain Marion H. Eppes was born in 1912 in Lineville, Alabama. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1935. He trained as a naval aviator in airships, and during WWII he served in USS Chester. He was navigator in USS Intrepid off the coast of Japan, 1944-1946.
